Localization is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular language, culture, market, and desired local look-and-feel. Localization encompasses the entire product including software, help files, documentation, packaging and marketing material. The goal is to provide a product with the look and feel of having been created for the target market in an effort to eliminate or minimize local sensitivities. Ideally, a successfully localized service or product is one that appears to have been developed within the local culture. According to the Globalization and Localization Association: Localizing you app can lead to significant success. For example, Trigger...

Web-Gl is going to change the way we interact with websites in the near future, Chrome already has basic support for web-gl installed. Just imaging the user experiences for you apps using the raw power of your installed graphics processor in web pages! I love this experiment meant for pushing the limits of the current technology for this, and because of the learning aspects of this kind of technology. Text books beware those boring 2d pictures are not as cools as exploring the universe all all our neighbors in this 100,000 stars experiment. ...

I was parsing a JSON response for an iOS / iPhone app and the keys in the data all started with an upper case letter. The Objective-C class that I made to represent the data defined instance variables that followed the standard convention of lower case for the first word. So for example “ParentCategory” became “parentCategory”. I wrote some code so I didn’t have to hard code all the keys being returned and instead used the method setValuesForKeysWithDictionary:. I was getting some unexpected results and after banging my head into the desk for a good bit I finally figured out...

As the weather is finally turning colder here in Austin, we’re feeling the need to feast on warm delicious food. Recently, our savior has been the free app Foodgawker, which is why we’re choosing to feature this fun app for the app of month this October! Foodgawker is a great recipe finding tool for cooking at any level,...

According to research done at Pew Research Center, 66 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 in the United States own a smartphone, and usage among all adults is up 10 percent from last year. Much like how businesses and organizations are taking advantage of the smartphone phenomenon that is sweeping the nation, political campaigns have revamped their digital strategies to utilize mobile to its fullest potential. Mobile Politics, an app that allows for political candidates to interact with their constituents, estimates that more than 800 million people will access political information from their smartphone this election. This statistic is an astonishing 200...

Still wondering about the impact an app can make? Each associate will get a personalized real estate app to promote themselves and their listings to their clients/potential clients. For example, if an agent has an open house, they can put a link or QR code on their promotional materials that will lead users to download their app. Additionally, if the agent’s website is accessed from a mobile device, a message will appear to prompt the viewer to download the app. Every time the app is downloaded, the customer’s contact info will be sent to the agent as...

Mobile Web. This term has been increasing in popularity in recent years, but what exactly do people mean when they use this phrase? In a sentence, mobile web is exactly what it sounds like- accessing the Internet from a mobile device. However, an understanding of mobile web goes much deeper than this, and continues to grow each day as new capabilities are discovered. So, you ask, what exactly are the distinguishing factors that make the mobile web, the mobile web? It travels with you. One obvious advantage of using mobile web is that you can access it almost anywhere with...

Long gone are the days of attempting to search the latest Justin Bieber music video and coming up with a home-produced version of someone’s untalented child belting the song out instead. Google released a new YouTube app just days before the release of Apple’s new iOS 6, which no longer includes its pre-installed version of YouTube. As Apple is not renewing its expired license with YouTube, this news is great for iPhone users who still want to access YouTube in other ways than the mobile site. The new YouTube app is our app of the month for several reasons....

If you have ever tried to design the content of a large view that is going to be in a UIScrollView for the iPhone you might have gotten stuck on how to do this without resorting to manual pain in the ass tricks like changing the x,y offset over and over. When trying to do the same thing an idea sprung in my head that required a bit of gestalt switch. Above you can see there is a picture that is the contents of a scroll view and I would like to be able to see the whole contents...
