1. Google I/O Conference Unveils Several New Releases

The Google I/O conference of 2018 was this month, and several announcements were made. The most notable include “Android P” a new Android dashboard; smart displays with Google Assistant; and Smart Compose—a self-drafting smart email feature.

2. Uber Unveils Flying Car Concept

While flying cars seems to have always been the subject of futuristic media, Uber unveiled a concept this month for flying taxis. Flights would take off from dedicated rooftop helicopter-like pads and would hold 4 passengers plus a pilot. Uber projects that “Uber Air” will cost no more than an Uber Premium fare and will shave off 70% of the average travel time.

3. GDPR Goes Into Effect

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) went into effect this past week. GDPR is a new law that sanctions tougher rules on data privacy in the European Union. While this law is only in effect in the EU, it will still affect users in the US. This is because any site that functions in the EU will be subject to the new data law regardless of where it is based.
